The AD&D Magic-User had one spell at 1st level.
And somehow, thatโs become one of the things everybody remembers about the class. But what if weโve been looking at the Magic-User completely wrong? The Magic-User wasnโt built around casting a spell every round. Spells were resources. Spellbooks were treasure. Magical knowledge had to be discovered. Scrolls mattered. Captured spellbooks mattered. Other Magic-Users could become teachers, rivals, or people you had to bargain with.
