The AD&D Fighter Was Never Boring...

No the fighter was not boring.. sure it looks like it would be boring, but itβs really not. The fighter is the one who holds the line, barks orders during combat and organizes the hirelings. Its more then swinging sword, its tactics and group survival.

Totally on board with this episode, I do think the fighter deserves more and the rules from Unearthed Arcana did supplement the class, most games I played the fighter got some house rules to emphasise combat abilities, in particular the one suggested at the bottom of page 74 on the DMG which boosts the fighter attack progression.
My introduction to AD&D back in the late 80s (v2) was as a fighter. We played a campaign over a number of years, getting together weekly and then monthly. I made some friendships during that time that have endured nearly 40 years, so I have a soft spot for the muscle-head class. I must get back into the game again!
